Remember the really cool Native American squash blossom necklaces? The designs featured the bold use of silver and turquoise. Often times, the bigger the better. The turquoise beads and silver "blossoms" culminated into a naja pendant. The naja is shaped like a sideways crescent moon. It is thought to have been influenced by the Moors when they invaded and occupied Spain and then when the Spanish came to the Southwestern United States. I have always been fascinated by that style and wish that my poor neck could handle the weight.
Naja is like a modern, minimalist, loose interpretation of the Native squash blossom necklace. The dainty sterling silver beaded chain serves as a stark contrast to the bold chain and beads used for the Native design. The sterling silver "naja" firmly holds onto layers of sterling chain and natural turquoise beads. The dangling turquoise provides nice movement. This design provides high impact without the weight.
